Roy Kurano (bass, vocals)
Roy was born in Glendora, California on November 11, 1964. He moved to the Salinas Valley when he was five. He listened to AM radio from the time he was nine years old. The first song he remembers hearing on the radio was Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime". After that he was hooked on music. He grew up listening to all kinds of pop music; such a broad mix, in fact, that he can't single out any specific artists as having any influence on his musical background. Roy attended Gonzales High School and Fresno State University. He received a B.S. Degree in Agriculture in 1987. Roy started playing the guitar when he was twenty-two. He taught himself by playing along to the radio, records, and CD's. He started out by learning a variety of 50's, 60's, 70's popular music. He actually found the other members of the group through another band project they were part of, called Ferret 51. At that time he was a rhythm guitarist. When Turn were unable to find a bass player, Roy picked up the bass. He learned some blues scales and taught himself to play the bass. From there on, he has rapidly grown into a remarkable bassist. He also continues to play the rhythm guitar, and has additionally taken up the harmonica and the mandolin. Roy writes a lot of the original music for Turn. He cites various 50's artists, as well as Ray, Lyndon, and Ladette, as the chief influences in his song-writing. He frequently plays "open mic" shows around the Monterey County area. Raymond Lugo (guitar)
Raymond's dad taught him a few chords and a blues progression when Raymond was in elementary school. He really started playing guitar regularly in his senior year of high school. The summer after high school, he took lessons from Charlie DeWeese (a local guitar instructor). A high school friend got Ray hooked on harder and harder music. "Pat Roy kept putting "Master of Puppets" in the tape deck until one day I said, 'Hey, who's this? This is pretty good,'" he recalls. Raymond has since acquired a large collection of music and videos of hard rock and metal groups. Raymond graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1988, Monterey Peninsula College in 1990, and from the University of California at Davis in 1993 with a B.A in English with an emphasis in writing. After college he wanted to do something in music and found a part-time job at 92.7 K-Rock in Monterey, CA, as an on-air personality. After a year, the station changed its format to Q-92, the Best of the 70's. "That sucked," he says, so he quit and went to work full time at Service Station Computer Systems as a technical writer. In 1997 the station changed back to an AOR/CHR format and he again went to work for the station, now called "Real Rock 92.7 K-Rock". Almost a year later, the station changed to 92.7 K-Rock, Rock and Roll Hits, and he left again. Raymond's main musical influences have been from Metallica, Megadeth, Joe Satriani, Iron Maiden, and Jake E. Lee from Badlands. He takes part in writing a lot of the original music for Turn. One of his current long-term goals is to record a good quality CD with original music "that rips." Lyndon Scott (drums)
While he was a high school student in 1981, Lyndon was working a full-time summer job to earn some extra money. He returned home one evening and found a fully assembled drum set in his brother's bedroom. His brother's friend was trying to sell it, and apparently was willing to loan it out on a try-it-before-you-buy-it basis. Lyndon sat behind the set, picked up the sticks, and was immediately hooked. That was to be his first drum set. Lyndon graduated from Katy High School, just outside of Houston, Texas in 1983. He has worked in a broad variety of occupations, and has held certifications in building maintenance, soldering, electronics, and preventive medicine. In 1991 he enlisted in the US Army, where he spent six years. He was stationed near Monterey, California in late 1992, and stayed in the area when his term of service ended. Lyndon has been influenced by a broad variety of musical artists at different times in his life. Early material by Elton John and Styx was very influential early in Lyndon's life. Later he enjoyed a number of rock artists, including Rush, Pink Floyd, Boston, Kansas, and Van Halen, among many others. In the 80's, he extended his tastes to include rock, new wave and alternative music. Today he continues to enjoy the music which has influenced him in the past, as well as new music by rock, alternative, industrial, and even some classical artists.
