John Grindy
Background
Started playing the guitar at 10yrs,
achieved Grade VIII at 15yrs. In 1987 won the Eric Clapton Scholarship to go
to the Guitar Institute of Technology at The Musicians Institute, (Sept 1987
- 1988) Hollywood, California and graduated with Honours. This was part
funded by the London Rotary Award, the John Lennon Arts Council Award (on
which George Martin was a panellist) and Hampshire County Council's Dayas
Scholarship Award.
Experience
Has been a private teacher since September
1988 averaging 40 hours a week, continuously since 1989. Since 1995 teaching
at various Hampshire schools and colleges. Students range from Year 5
upwards. Lessons are taught in groups of 2 or 3, mostly for 20 minutes at a
time. Ensemble work includes: Guitar clubs up to 20 students and Rock
Workshops.
Performance
Has been featured in 'Total Guitar' (on
front cover, and CD) twice. Endorsed by Carvin and demonstrated guitars and
amplifiers at Hammersmith, London. Performed for charity at Porchester
Castle. Has written and recorded three own label instrumental CD's.
Currently playing in three bands, including an Aerosmith tribute band which
performs regularly in London, and soon at The Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea.
Personal Information
Would like to be Surfing, scuba diving,
travelling but work, kids and marriage take up all his spare time! :)
