First off, this site is awesome.  You've done a fantastic job!  I am sending you some pictures of the USA Custom I bought back in 93.  I picked it up used, but it still had the film on the pickups and the backing paper on the back plates.  It's been my main axe ever since.  I have taken very good care of it ( wiper her down after every session).  It only has one ding on the top edge as you hold the guitar.  Until I saw the picture of the Silver Peacock on your site, I had never seen another like her.  Thought you might be interested in the photos.  Mine has the rosewood neck with shark inlays, gold lettering, but is otherwise the same as the one you have on your site.  I only have one question, though.  How "rare" is it?  Just curious, but I'll never get rid of her, she just plays way to damn good.

A Rare 'bird' indeed. (pun intended)
This is a sweet Ibanez USA custom Guitar made in 1989. The guitar is in very good condition! The only major blemish is the clear coat chip at the lower horn, (seen in 1st pic) Otherwise, it's in great shape! After further inspection, there is a clear chip at the neck pick up, pretty small and a few very mild little nix on it. I can take photos of these small areas upon request
24 fret maple board and the 24th fret has been scalloped cleanly for better access! It seriously improves the notes bend and attenuation at the second octave.
The pre-production indicators, other than the stamped neck plate is the white 'Ibanez USA Custom' logo on the head stock. It is much different than the production models. The production Ibanez USA series guitars generally have 'Ibanez USA Custom' logo gold, where as the pre-production model have a white 'Ibanez USA Custom' logo the USA Custom script is different.

Details & History

Based on the 700 series, the USA Custom series was designed to be an affordable 'custom' range. More customized then custom, you were able to select from a number of finishes, necks, inlays, headstocks, and pick up's to create a guitar for yourself. So whilst not strictly a Luthier's one off, the USA Custom's still are very sort after and collectable. Numbers are very vague and (with the exception of the early very rare pre-production runs thought to number no more then 250 pieces), extremely hard to tie down. (its up to you lot out there that have them to give us details. Please Ed!). Points to notice are the Ibanez Edge trem system, (like the early Jem's) on the Graphic series, with the option for a hard tail on the Exotic woods, and a cutaway neck joint, again like the Jem's and again the exotic woods got the AANJ as a bonus. (Why just them? Ed!). And the rather 'handily' placed volume knob right under the bridge pick up.

The 'Silver Peacock' design is one of the Metal Design series, (made by laying fabric under the clear coat ala JEM77FP) believed to have been available through 1990 & 92.  If you can help with further information on the guitar, please get in touch.
