We
drove 6.5 hours west to Pittsburgh, PA (Reb's backyard) to catch Reb and
Kip play a cameo acoustic appearance together at the Hardrock Cafe. After
the gig, I approached Reb with the WRB in hand, and when he saw it, he was
floored. He hadn't held one in many years ever since he had to sell his
collection during what he calls 'the dark times'. Reb was showing it off
to his friends that night, showcasing and explaining what it was and then
he said to me: "Wait until Kip sees this, he's going to freak out". In
fact, he started yelling to Kip from across the room to try to get his
attention while he was holding it. Before I had him sign it, we talked
about it's playability and its history such as the guitar's graphic, which
was designed by the same artist that designed Winger's first album, Dan
Hubp. When I met up with Kip on the Hardrock's stage, I had him sign the
back of the guitar with 'Kip Winger III.' He was no doubt excited to see
the guitar as well. Too bad Reb didn't play an electric set on stage that
night. I would have whipped it out in a second and I'm sure he would have
played it! A very memorable moment with two extremely humble, gifted, and
gracious musicians. I hope meet up with Rod Morgenstein and Paul Taylor in
the near future to complete the entire band on the WRB.
