Steve Vai Signature Model

Details & History

Well, the guitar is a 1992 Ibanez Jem PMC. In 92, I was young, free, and living the rock lifestyle. I met a wealthy older lady who showered me with gifts. She, lucky enough, was a musician also and had connections. I told her how insane it would be to have a Jem PMC with gold hardware. I figured the PMC was Ibanez' way of going for the female market and offering them an upscale guitar. I figured that gold hardware would make this "beautifully gaudy" guitar even more outrageous! I also thought that the idea would flop and it would make that guitar a limited run. Anyhow, the guitar shop owner and my girl did the research and found that the only Ibanez made that year with the exact same size trem block and the exact factory hardware in gold was the Reb Beach model. After many calls to the Ibanez people were made....I got my PMC...comeplete with "factory" gold hardware.

Sounds like a "big fish" story...I know...but.............................all true.

Anyway, here are some sweet pictures. Sorry to anyone that may be interested...she's not for sale. I could never part from it. Killer site!

Mike

Great website! I thought I'd send you a few pics of my purple multi-coloured Jem, serial number 917568. Purchased last year after a long search (don't stop trying!). Excellent condition all round and, after a fret dress/set up from my local guitar workshop, plays great.

Hi, I've been looking around your Ibanez Register site and it is fantastic.
I thought I'd email you a couple pics of my Purple Multicolor Jem.
It is a '92 model and signed by Steve Vai on the trem spring plate.

Thanks!

I'm from Portugal and I bought this PMC in here, July 2002. This was one hell of a deal because the guitar is as new as it can be (she was in the store for all these years) and has no scratches, nicks, fret or tremolo wear, nothing. Also, Portugal is a country where you simply can't find a swirl, and having the chance to buy one and NOS is like and impossible thing to happen. But i was lucky to find one. The swirl is a bit unusual because of the color's combination. I've never seen in any other PMC with this combination of colors. Being my first swirl, and even the first swirl that I've seen in person, i love it. And it's not for sale.

Details & History

This Ibanez Multi color Jem PMC is the most sought after, limited run of the multi color swirls made by Darren at ATD. The production number is a staggering low count of 271 less the two I personally know of that have been destroyed making an actual 269 or less in the world. The next closest in limited run Jem multi colors are the mighty Vai Jem 2KDNA more often referred to as a DNA with a very low production of only 300 world wide!
Third would be the GMC, green Multi color swirl with a low make off 366.
Finally, the Ibanez Universe or rather UV77MC or UVMC Has the most production pieces around with a high count of 1038 produced!
Perhaps Steve Vai and Ibanez will team up to have a new MC made for Darren to swirl.. of course, my hope is a new Chrome Jem with built in Sustainer pick up at the neck and a paf pro at the bridge and perhaps even chrome vine inlays... oh, to dream :-)
