Details & HistoryI play Jem's for 4 basic reasons. First is the whammy, along with their sustain. There are few guitars out there made today (or ever) that can do the things that a Jem can do with the whammy/sustain combination. Second, is the pickup configuration. It's the ultimate Super-Strat. Humbuckers for fat sounds, low noise, high-output. But yet, you've got the single-coil in there to really satisfy those types of sounds that you may need. Third, the 24 fret neck. I will NOT play a guitar that has any less. I don't personally understand why every guitar in the world doesn't have 24 frets. I guess I'm the freak! or maybe,...they just don't get what the extra 2 or 3 frets buys you... The forth reason,...it just looks cool! Period! The Monkey Grip, the Vine-of-Life, (or Tree-of-Life) fret markers, the finish, the head-stock. It's just plain old COOL! And very ergonomic. But, that's a whole other topic... (Thanks Joe, a great insight. Joe also has a Jem555BK on here. Ed!) |

Details & HistoryThe classic Steve Vai Jem guitar kept in great condition and sounds incredible. His name is on the 24th fret and the vine inlay on the neck enhances the smoothness of the axe. |

Details & HistoryThis is the Korean made jem junior. These guitars have been given a lot of bad press. And yes they do lack a little, (lo-TRS2 rather then lo-Pro trem, no scalloping, Korean build), but I think this is a little unfair, the half tree of life vine inlay, Steve's name inlayed on the 24th and DiMarzio evolution pickups make I a great guitar for a good price, and I can see the owners using it as a stepping stone to the higher end Jem's when funds allow. after all music should be for all and not just those with a wad of cash to spend. I know of friends that have spent £2500 on a one guitar and 30w amp and can't play for toffee, what make them better to decide what's good? (here he goes again. Ed!) Another friend borrowed £100 from me to buy a Gio Ibanez lefty and he's a great guitarist. there can be a bit to much snobbery at times. sure the 555 isn't as good as the rest of the jem range, but for many its a little bit of Vai at a realist price. *climbs off soap box and goes to make a cup of tea. (got any biscuits? Ed.) |
