Ibanez unveiled six new small-bodied Artcore semi-acoustics at the Anaheim NAMM Show in January. Especially notable was the AW82TTRD, the first semi-acoustic guitar to feature a tremolo with no backplate cavity.

"Eliminating the cavity and plate from the back of the guitar is one more way we can increase resonance," said Ibanez U.S.A. national sales manager Jon Romanowski. "The design of the ACT tremolo for the AW82TTRD allows more resonance but with no sacrifice in arm technique or intonation. It's a pretty significant advance in guitar technology. The ACT is the right trem for rock and country players who want to use a trem and still get real semi-acoustic tones."
