SB70
Studio Series

SN: I821279 YEAR: Sept 1982 OWNER: John Ridpath

Details & History

I have what is apparently a SB70. It took me a while to figure that out. I bought it a pawn shop in the early 90’s and it was pretty beat up. All of the knobs were missing and the pickup phase selector switch was broken. The body was severely scratched up as well. I replaced the knobs with the only thing I could find that was close. I also replaced the phase selector and refinished the body. It is not dark like the original finish, but I think it looks much better. The serial number is I821273. It seems that these are not all that common. Since there was only one other listed in the registry, I figured I’d have mine listed as well for some variety.

Details & History

The SB70 was essentially a hybrid of the end of the ST Studio line and the start of the RS Roadstar series. Very few examples appear to have survived.

as you can see  the guitar is sadly not in its original condition I have made a few modifications a different jack socket a trem new pickup surrounds new control knobs .
it is however back to its original colour of walnut after being sprayed black, midnight blue, orange green and black stripes in an Eddie van halen style ,black again and finally back to the walnut . though I do have to say the original walnut was of a very poor standard, and with me being a furniture polisher since leaving school I do find it hard not to spray things. the guitar still plays well, always has and the pickups sound really warm. the pickup surrounds are actually made of wood as the original melted when I tried to get some orange paint off.
I've tried to get some replacements but its impossible to find any with one screw on one side and two on the other. I wish id  kept in  the original condition though  but that's youthfulness for you . I don't play it much now though and I am thinking of selling it but I probably wont get much for it so I should imagine ill keep in for sentimental value as it was my first guitar.
