Details & History I bought it off a friends friends in approx 1990-1991. Its got 540s written on the headstock and a serial number of F018807. Its got all original parts - including Floyd Rose and IBZUSAC2 (single coils) & IBZUSAF2 (humbucker) pickups.

First thank you for this site, as an Ibanez fan since long time, "IBANEZ REGISTER" is in my bookmarks for years.

I 'd like to present you this S540 with a dark grey finish, I bought it in 1994 or 1995 I don't really remember, I used it a lot in bad conditions sometime and it still here.
I just give her a total revision last week and she return as good as the beginning.

The serial number is : F043457, and it made in Japan.

I add an Roland GK2A Hex Pickup and change the volume knob, that's all!!

It's a very beautiful guitar with versatile sound and easy neck…

I bought this 540 Sabre (Serial Number 801238) in Lipstick Red from Allbang & Strummit (No longer in business) in London in about 1988/9. I think it could have been the very guitar that featured in Guitarist magazine when they reviewed this model. I've modified the guitar over the years. It originally had the three micro switches which were fiddly to use and looked quite messy - those went and the standard Ibanez 5 way selector went in. The original IBZ pickups weren't the best sounding in the world either so the guitar now sports a DIMARZIO Dual Sound Humbucker and two Fender Lace pickups in the single positions - a Silver in the middle and a Blue in the Neck position. The guitar now sounds more Strat-like than a Strat - genuinely! (But obviously with no hum)

The guitar is now 14/15 years old and is in perfect condition aside from a few small marks here and tarnishing on the Floyd. It plays and sounds better than any other instrument I've ever picked up, and is definitely not for sale for any price (£ 1,000,000? anyone)

I have an 87 Ibanez 540SCB Ser. # A700071. I bought this guitar about 5 years ago at a pawn shop near where I live. It has the H/S/S p/u config. with the IBZUSA pickups and 3 mini-switches, 1 vol. & 1 tone with black chrome hardware. It has the ultra fast 22 fret rosewood Wizard neck and Floyd Rose trem. Its a great player. It is currently set to the side as I need to get it rewired and restrung. If anyone knows of a wiring diagram id love to know about it.
